Politics meets Business

When we contemplate on the title of this article, we tend to think of economics being discussed by politicians or financial bills being passed in the houses of parliament or senate. But we do not often think of the latest modernization of politics in the Indian context. Nowadays, politicians prefer to have their offices furnished with modern equipments, chairs, desks and cabinets to get a more corporate look. A relevant and recent example of this is Ms. Mamata Banerjee, who changed the look of her entire office in Writer’s Building, Calcutta right after winning the state elections in West Bengals. She has installed LCD TVs, an L shaped desk, swanky new cabinets and wooden flooring. The offices of Indian Politicians are considered hangovers of those of British politicians, but it indeed is nice seeing such changes.
